"I've always enjoyed driving, and I used to love when my gran took me to Cardiff on the bus when I was
younger, so for those reasons, it just felt natural to me to come to Cardiff Bus! There hasn't been a day
that I haven't looked forward to work. Alongside the free bus travel, the view from your window is always
lovely, and all the other drivers make it feel like one big family. The company pays you to train, and once
you're out on the road, the rates of pay are one of the best in Cardiff. If you enjoy driving, this is one
of the best jobs ever."
Mackenzie - Bus Driver
"I have been a bus driver for 34 years now, 11 years being at Cardiff Bus. No two days are the same which is
why I like being a bus driver, you also get to meet different people every day and because I do late shifts
all the time I get to know the regular customers. Being a female bus driver, I have never really encountered
any difficulties. Some people are surprised to see a woman behind the wheel, but here at Cardiff Bus there
are more and more joining us."
Jane - Bus Driver
“I have been working for Cardiff Bus coming up to my third year now and to say I love my job is an
understatement. No day is ever the same and you truly do have an office with a view, the support here is
fantastic so I am very happy in my job and a major positive is that it fits around my family life!”
Simon - Operations Supervisor
“I have been with Cardiff bus for three years, first as a Bus Driver and now in Customer Services, and
absolutely love working for a company steeped in history. During a recent illness, Cardiff Bus were at my
side all the way. I will never forget that.”
Mark - Bus Driver
“This is a fast-paced busy working environment with a great atmosphere, no two days are ever the same. This
keeps my team and I ready to tackle any situation that may occur.”
Chris - Engineering Manager
“I enjoy my job because every day I do something different. I enjoy getting hands on and stuck in.”
Austin - Apprentice Technician
“I have been employed at Cardiff bus since June 2021, in my short period with Cardiff Bus I have noticed how
much hard work and effort goes into the running of the network. I like how Cardiff bus has shown a keen
interest in the health and wellbeing of their staff, and how I have been given the opportunity to push
Cardiff bus forward in the improvements to our carbon footprint. I enjoy the atmosphere and the open-door
policy of Cardiff bus, making it feel more of a family than a work place.”
Paul - Facilities and Environmental Manager
"Hi, I’m Tom and I have been a bus driver 18 months. I hadn’t previously worked in the transport industry,
but I qualified through the Cardiff Bus Training Academy obtaining my licence with only 3 minors. I work on
the 5 Day City Roster but I’m able to drive all buses and all routes that we offer. I joined Cardiff Bus as
it enables me to have a working pattern that differs from the normal 9 to 5. This provides greater
flexibility around my working week, enabling me to have different options and approaches to completing my
outside of work endeavours."
Tom - Bus Driver
"Cardiff Bus is a great place to work. The company has served Cardiff and the Vale for decades, and coined
the phrase "cheers drive". You have the atmosphere and culture of a local company, mixed with the support
and infrastructure of a much larger company meaning help and support is always available when you need it.
Training is thorough and ongoing, have regular catch ups with managers and the rest of the team are always
ready to help if we need it"
